You are visiting a conceptual photographer and digital artist, specializing in fashion, portrait, and commercial photography. I love to create narrative, expressive and emotional imagery that make people feel that the impossible is possible. I'm an image constructor, meticulously crafting all details to often form realistic surrealism. At the age of 31 I completely changed my life. I had spent 10 years within the academic world, getting a Master of Science within neurobiology and working at a DNA analysis company, when I decided to follow my heart and passion instead. I left my old career behind, and embraced the world of imagery by attending school for Professional Photography (Fotoskolan Göteborg). And I've never looked back. I have a never-ending urge to come up with and tell stories through my photographs and am certainly drawn to cinematic imagery. I often get highly inspired by the location itself when building alternative stories to sceneries that goes hand-in-hand with the concept and styling. Growing up on the Swedish countryside open landscapes, woods, and nature were always present and I've always loved the magic of a wild scenery. Also, my mind has always flourished inside great novels or being enchanted by movies. It is now obvious that my artwork is highly inspired by my childhood experiences, making me romanticize and dramatize my environment and put fantasies into the frame. The landscape is a returning location for my stories and I want to capture the natural beauty of a place but with my own twist. I like to highlight the hidden charm of an, at first sight, ordinary place. I am currently working as a freelance photographer, available for commissions and assignments. Also, I am continuously shooting my fine-art series "Parallels". I reside in Göteborg (Gothenburg), Sweden, with my husband and graphic designer Andreas. I work on location without boundaries.

The Light That Shines – by Sue Bryce

This is a beautiful and important documentary, made by film maker Hailey Bartholomew and photographer Sue Bryce. A film about Jill, a young woman struggling and fighting cancer, but still finds beauty in herself and in the world. Jill says on her Facebook:

“I hope you all enjoyed this beautiful doco that we all worked so hard to make. When you watch it please share it with everyone you know. I truly believe that It will be able to help women and men all around the world. I watched it tonight live with my frineds and family and there was not a dry eye in the house. I just wish that I would of been able to watch it with my mom. She has been such an amazing mom and friend to me throughout my entire life, especially going through Cancer. If you are having a bad day or you are angry with a loved one, please remember not to sweat the small stuff because you can get through anything if you have LOVE. I hope I dont sound cheesy but I am speaking from my heart. I am so blessed to have such a loving family, husband and friends. Thank you all for taking the time and watching this and writing to me telling me your stories that have already touched my soul and heart. If you are going through or know someone that is going through Cancer please dont stop fighting.”

A year to remember – 2012, part 4/4

And just like 2012, this summary has to come to an end. Over the last year I have not only shot images. I also have…

1 – …created three new sites:

a total makeover of jennyjacobsson.com (by design bureau Mollbyrån), including new logo and writing new about text.
a brand new Facebook page to share fun photography stuff, tips, and photo inspiration and sharing more of my work with you guys.
a completely new blog design showcasing my images so much better.

2 – During the autumn I got a great new business card design (also from Mollbyrån), bought a new camera, and put together a great physical A3 portfolio.

3 – And so finally, in late December, we pulled off our big and mighty examination exhibition. 24 photographers from Fotoskolan Göteborg worked our tiny bums off to put everything together, exhibiting all our individual examination projects for a week. So stressful, so much to do, but in the end, so worth it and so much fun.

4 – A lot happened in 2012 and I’ve experienced so many new things. But most important of all, 2012 was a year filled with love and amazing friendship. Thank you so much you guys for being there and making life so much fun. <3

And oh yes…. I’m so ready for 2013!

The summary for the awesome year of 2012 continues!

1 – This was the year of interior shoots…

3 – …and photographing animals in the hostel Strandflickorna together with wonderful photographer Rania Rönntoft, a collaboration with Copywriter Axel Johansson and Art Director Andréas Silverblad.

4 – It was the year of doing an assignment for Passivhus, a collaboration with Copywriter Anders Malm and again with Art Director Andréas Silverblad, taking us all the way to the finals of the competition Pitch 2012.

5 – I did the profile image for Mollbyrån and Andreas Gustafsson, and continued to work on my self portrait project.

6 – I got the honour of photographing some of the cutest children ever…

Here’s the continuation of the summary for the awesome year of 2012!

1 – Oh the tasks you get from a photography school…. Here’s a self portrait magazine / fashion / beauty assignment with the location requirement “boat”.

2 – In April our class went on a photography inspirational week trip to Berlin and we had a blast! More images from Berlin here. Go Team Sauerkraut!

3 – Portfolio images for Emma of “JO! Models” during the fashion project for the company rebranding. Watch the video campaign we shot!

4 – Wonderful Hanna and Paddy got married in London and we were more than happy to fly over for that special occasion.

5-6 – Andreas and I went on a photo trip through the middle parts of Sweden to enjoy ourselves as well as shoot images for a project of mine. You’ll see more shots from this project coming up in the future. I would do this again EVERY summer if possible!

7 – As soon as we got the chance we relaxed and just enjoyed the summer of 2012. At least when I wasn’t sliding down muddy hills during location scouting…. or taking the office outside… or catching up on some business reading while resting my ankle. In conclusion, a lovely summer.

A year to remember – 2012, part 1/4

What a marvelous year it was, 2012. So filled with new experiences, new friends, challenges, and most of all, love. Here’s a little summary!

1 – It happened January 1st. 30 seconds into the new year, while watching the fireworks fade over Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. Andreas got down on one knee and asked me to become his wife. The answer couldn’t have been any more obvious! The wedding is in June 2013…

2 – At Fotoskolan Göteborg (Photo school Gothenburg) I constantly greeted new challenges, here photographing e.g. architecture with flashes. Instructor the oh so kind Hendrik Zeitler.

3 – My project “Movie Title Stills” with behind-the-scenes shots.

4 – A collaboration with the talented Art Director Leo Dal and Copywriter Mike Stranéus for Livlinan. A big thank you to the model Daniel Liljedahl!

5 – My favorite instructor through both years at Fotoskolan was David Bicho. Both because of his sense of humour as well as for the many, MANY, things he tought me about light.

6 – In March our apartment was invaded by equipment! It was time to shoot a commercial for our filmmaking course, with Johan Ekström, Hans Andersson, and Nadim Elazzeh.

The design and web development bureau Mollbyrån in Gothenburg (Göteborg) asked me to shoot the profile image for the website’s About page (Om byrån) (visit the page for a larger image) and excitedly I jumped on board. The assignment also included to develop the image concept in collaboration with Andreas Gustafsson, the creative director of Mollbyrån.

Exhibition at Strandverket- Håkan Ludwigson

This week we got the wonderful opportunity to get a private showing of the great exhibition present at Strandverket on Marstrand, by no less than Håkan Ludwigson. Håkan is the introducing exhibiting photographer of this new gallery for photography, sculptures, video, design, and fashion. Håkan is highly inspiring both as a person and by his work of art. It was a great showing with Håkan being incredibly nice, insightful, and he gave a lot of himself and his experience. Thank you Håkan!

The gallery is in the old defensive fort at the harbor of the island Marstrand. I certainly recommend a visit at Strandverket if you have the chance!

INSPIRATION FOR IMAGE CREATORS – Photographer Rosie Hardy

As a photographer, or any image maker, you can choose to sit around waiting for inspiration to pop up by itself. Personally, I’m a firm believer that feeling inspired is a state of mind you can teach yourself to find when you need it. So, what can we do to get started? I’m gathering and sharing my methods and favorite creators as a resource to help keeping our inspirational juices flowing. And I invite you along for this series of “INSPIRATION FOR IMAGE CREATORS”!

Every photographer has a beginning. A story of how it all started. Maybe something happened that made you pick up the camera for the first time to capture it, something might have inspired you so much that you want to create something similar, or there can be tons of reasons why you start to be appealed by this amazing art form.

For me it was the first time when I came upon Flickr Explore and from there when I found the fantastic work of photographer Rosie Hardy. There was this girl, looking at me through my screen, and she was within another world. There was so much that caught me, the illusionary settings, the well balanced moods, the creative playfullness, that all got me to continue looking through that photostream. Again and again. And I had found my first photographer that truly inspired me and made me pick up my own camera.

The Westgiotha Gustavianer. A trip to the 1700’s

As an assigment at Fotoskolan I got in touch with the Westgiötha Gustavianer (WG). The WG is a cultural association based in Gothenburg (Göteborg) with the purpose of their activities to bring the city of Gothenburg and the Garrison in the late 1700’s to life and to preserve the heritage from the Gustavian period.

In early December I got the chance to join three very nice members of WG on one of their hikes in which they were staying out overnight. One of the purposes of the hike was to test some of their newly handcrafted gear and see if it worked accordingly to expectation. This day happens to be one of autumn’s absolutely worst weather wise, with cats and dogs raining constantly at close to freezing temperatures. Not only was this testing the limits of my photographic gear and ways to handle such extreme conditions, but for the guys it sure was a true test for coping the outdoor life and what the gear and clothes made for the 1700’s really could do for you (no Gore-Tex there!).

Even though the circumstances could have been better (!) I sure had a marvelous time and it was really interesting to study such whole hearted interest from the group. Here are some shots from when the camera lens wasn’t completely covered with icy water:

A huge thank you to Andreas Gustafsson who came with me this uncomfortable day, elevating our spirits, assisting in wiping the lens and carrying heavy gear.

As a bonus I also got to join the WG’s for a gathering down in the city center from where they walked to Skansen Kronan, a redoubt in central Gothenburg, for some Christmas celebrations and 1700’s dancing. Moving around town together with these guys sure was an extraordinary experience, with people turning around just about everywhere to have a curious and closer look. The beautiful and carefully crafted clothing and equipment sure is a joy to watch. And so is the joyful and well practiced dance, characteristic to the period they all are so fantastically fascinated by. And after having spent some time with them, who can resist to be?
